“School districts tasked with filling math, science teacher shortage”: My Orlando Sentinel op-ed (and an additional bit of bad news on Math 5-9 certifications)

Here is another bit of data I hadn’t looked at until yesterday:  Math 5-9 certifications are declining as well.


Math 5-9 is generally intended for middle school teachers, but teachers holding that certification can teach Algebra 1 and Geometry.  There are high schools – particularly those with challenging demographics – that have substantial numbers of Math 5-9 teachers on their faculties.
