As has been pointed out by many others, I am not a social scientist. But I’m an education policy hobbyist. In fact, I chaired the American Physical Society’s Education Policy Committee for a year (after chairing the society’s Committee on Education for two years).
With that caveat, I offer what I’ve decided is the central principle of education policy:
What people really want to be told is that what they’re already doing is wonderful.
Tell people that what they are already doing is not wonderful and you are going to get resistance. Lots of resistance.
