Why the Heartland Institute opposes the Common Core

The Heartland Institute is a very conservative think tank.  But still, the fact that they invoke Lenin on the first page of their policy brief, “The Common Core:  A Poor Choice for States”, is impressive.  And not in a good way.

The arguments made by Heartland – particularly the emphasis on maintaining local control of education and the idea that the Common Core standards are poor in quality – echo throughout the Common Core debate in Florida.
