Maryland Board of Ed to vote on NGSS adoption on Tuesday

The Maryland Board of Education is set to vote on adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards on Tuesday (June 25).

Vermont will also vote on Tuesday.

If these two states adopt the NGSS, they will join Rhode Island and Kansas as early adopters.  Kentucky’s Board of Education has voted to adopt, but final adoption is contingent on the approval of the state’s legislature, where there is significant opposition.

Maryland and Vermont are both among the 26 lead state partners on the NGSS project, as are Rhode Island, Kansas and Kentucky.
