Congratulations to Steve Fannin – Leon County’s first Presidential Award winner in 18 years

Tallahassee science teacher Stephen Fannin is one of 97 teachers in the country to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

President Barack Obama announced the award recipients Monday afternoon in a White House news release.

Fannin, a science teacher at Lincoln High School, has been a Leon County educator for more than 30 years. The last teacher from Tallahassee to receive the national award was Elizabeth Perdue from Fairview Middle School in 1994. The other winner from Florida was Kathleen Jones, a math teacher from Panama City Beach.
