FSU/UF tuition bill heading for Governor Scott’s desk

The Florida Senate this morning approved HB 7129, the bill that would give FSU and UF the power to charge “market rate” tuition.  But the only three no votes in the 36-3 poll came from a trio of Senators that should raise eyebrows – Senate President Mike Haridopolos, Senate President-designate Don Gaetz, and influential colleague Andy Gardiner.

Governor Scott has said he is opposed to tuition hikes, and this is one he could block with his veto pen.

The ability to charge market rate tuition would allow FSU to somewhat attenuate the impact of the $66 million budget hit it is slated to take in the budget that will have its final legislative vote tomorrow.
